Crime dramas usually begin with a murder. Eyes, a Sony LIV Original series, starts with watching. More specifically, being watched.

Eyes, a seven-episode series, revolves around stalking and how stalking impacts its victim, mostly women. It follows the efforts of the police and mental health experts to understand the psychology of a stalker to recognise patterns and circumvent stalking before it escalates further. Kani Kusruti plays the cop (Tina Sebastian) investigating such cases in Eyes. All episodes of the Sony LIV Original series Eyes are streaming now from 9 October 2026.

Why Eyes matters

Director Manu Ashokan, who helms the series, talks about how being stalked deeply affects the sense of security for the victim. And hence, the stories of such victims become the main focus in the series.

This isn't Ashokan's first collaboration with the pen duo behind Eyes, script by Bobby-Sanjay, story by Anjana Nayar. The writer duo is perhaps best known for scripting landmark Malayalam films like Traffic (2011), arguably the film that redefined the thriller in Malayalam, and Mumbai Police.

Ashokan and Bobby-Sanjay's first collaboration was on Uyare (2019), starring Parvathy as a pilot whose life is upended after an acid attack. Their next outing together was family drama Kaanekkaane (2021), an intense watch featuring Suraj Venjaramoodu and Tovino Thomas, which also premiered on Sony LIV.

Their storytelling largely revolves around societal commentary, and delves deep into the human psyche.

From Notebook (2006), their maiden effort as writers, to penning down scripts for films like How Old Are You (2014, the film that marked Manju Warrier's comeback), their body of work reflects a common thread, spotlighting the lives of women, and their circumstances, be it in the face of adversities, or against the backdrop of indifferent onlookers. Eyes continues that journey, this time from the cop's perspective.

Why a series?

What makes stalking insidious is the fact that it isn't a one-off act, but a pattern that plays out over time (weeks/months). And this is where a series format makes sense for Eyes. Stalking thrives off repetition. A series allows the makers to dwell on the nitty-gritties and intricacies of such patterns instead of rushing to get to the 'crime' that a feature film would probably demand of it.

About Eyes

DreamKatcher's (producer, T. R. Shamsudheen) Eyes is directed by Manu Ashokan and scripted by Bobby-Sanjay (story, Anjana Nayar). It stars Kusruti, alongside Nikhila Vimal, Shruti Ramachandran, Saniya Iyyappan, Dev Mohan, Prem Prakash and character actor Jaffer Idukki. Eyes is produced under the banner of DreamKatcher. The music is by Ranjin Raj and the series is shot by Gautham Shankar and edited by Abhilash Balachandran.

About Kani Kusruti

In just a couple of years, Kani Kusruti has etched a special place for herself in Indian cinema. From starring in critically-acclaimed projects like All We Imagine as Light (winner, Grand Prix, Cannes 2024) and Girls Will Be Girls (2024), to bagging the Kerala State Award for her performance in Biriyani, Kusruti is quite a force to reckon with.

Her understated performances, and her ability to breathe life into characters that leave as much unsaid as they say, have won her plaudits from audiences and critics alike. So it only makes sense for her to play the cop in Eyes, a profession that demands of her the ability to read people and situations.

About Bobby-Sanjay and Manu Ashokan

Fans of Malayalam cinema would've probably come across the names of writers Bobby-Sanjay and director Manu Ashokan through acclaimed projects like Traffic and Uyare.
