Four middle-class boys in Mumbai, Jay, Tony, Saahil and Sameer, and their dreams, setbacks and friendship which acts as their armour. Until one decision traps them between gangsters and cops, and the very thing that binds them begins to break them.
Set in Mumbai of the early 2000s, when even the smallest of blunders could land you in the clutches of the city's sprawling underworld, Chaar Yaar is a Hindi-language, eight-episode crime drama series starring Purav Jha, Naman Jain, Saqib Ayub and Prayrak Mehta as the title four friends.
Chaar Yaar was co-created by crime journalist S. Hussain Zaidi (Black Friday, Dongri to Dubai), writer Sambit Mishra, director Vinay Waikul and writer Saurabh Sawant. Zaidi's books have been hugely influential in shaping the depiction of Mumbai's mafia in Hindi cinema, with Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday based on the journalist's eponymous book.
Other notable actors appearing in Chaar Yaar include Chunky Panday, Paresh Ganatra, Pankaj Jha, Sai Tamhankar, Sikandar Kher, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Bagavathi Perumal, Rajesh Tailang and Manav Gohil.
Developed by BBC Studios India and produced by Pink Window Productions, all eight episodes of Chaar Yaar are streaming on Prime Video in India from 23 October 2026.
More information on the cast and makers of Chaar Yaar
The story of Chaar Yaar centres around four young men, Jay, Tony, Saahil and Sameer, played by Purav Jha, Naman Jain, Saqib Ayub and Prayrak Mehta. Jha may be the most recognisable face among the quartet. The internet personality has carved out a sizable following with his parody videos. Chaar Yaar marks his foray into acting in a show.
Naman Jain, on the other hand, has donned the hat of a child actor, for which he bagged a National Film Award. Here, he's grown up to play a lead role. Rounding out the gang are Mehta and Ayub.
Some notable names in the supporting cast include Tamhankar (Mimi), Kher (Aarya), Bhattacharya (Undekhi, Jamtara) and Tailang (Delhi Crime, Mirzapur).
A glimpse into the world of crime in Mumbai
Set in the early 2000s, when the grip of the mafia was strong and tight, Chaar Yaar is helmed by Waikul and co-created by crime journalist Zaidi, whose books Black Friday and Dongri to Dubai offer a peek into the criminal milieu of Mumbai.
Chaar Yaar, which has all eight episodes out worldwide from 23 October 2026, follows four friends whose lives are caught in the crossfire between the cops and the gangsters. What exactly transpired to land them in such a fix remains shrouded in mystery.
