Balu (Varun Sandesh) goes to a police station in Amalapuram to register a complaint that his wife Swapna (Shweta Basu Prasad) is missing. As he seeks answers, secrets about her past that Balu is oblivious of, come to the fore.

Naa Wife Missing (or Na Wife Missing as it is also spelled), is an aha Original mystery film that began streaming on October 22, 2026 in Telugu and Tamil.

The Couple From Kotha Bangaru Lokam

For the older audience, the casting itself is big news. In 2008, Varun Sandesh and Shweta Basu Prasad had starred as a young couple in Srikanth Addala's Dil Raju produced, Mickey J Meyer musiced college romance Kotha Bangaru Lokam. Sandesh's debut film was Sekhar Kammula's campus film Happy Days, while Shweta had already acted in Hindi films as a child artist. And KBL was a coming of age/first love story that found a ready takership with audiences.

Varun Sandesh Plays the Husband

Eighteen years later, Naa Wife Missing reunites the pair. Only, this time, they are no longer school/college sweethearts but a married couple. And unlike their first love story, this is a mystery film.

In it, Sandesh plays Balu (full name Balasubrahmanyam) who walks into the police station to complain that his arranged marriage wife is missing. And, it's his journey through this process that the film focuses on.

It's quite a different avatar for the actor, known for his stint in the 2019 season of reality show Bigg Boss Telugu, which gave him an avatar as himself. In NWM, he has to play a concerned/angry/doubtful husband.

Shweta Basu Prasad as Swapna

The National Film Award winning Makdee kid, who went on to act in films such as Iqbal as a sister character and grown-up roles in films/series such as The Tashkent Files in Telugu and Hindi, plays his wife Swapna. After an arranged marriage, she goes missing and Sandesh has to seek answers from the police. Mohith, Praveen and Jabardasth's Sathya Sri play other roles in the film.

The Team Behind It

Directed by Swathi Prakash Mantripragada and produced by Shiva Kanthamneni under the banner Lighthouse Cine Magic, the film has been written by Aditya Bhargav and Mandala Srinivasa with Umarji Anuradha penning the story for it. The teaser of the film was unveiled by V. V. Vinayak while the trailer of it by Akhanda helmer Boyapati Srinu.

Music by Sai Karthik

Naa Wife Missing's music is composed by Sai Karthik, who has helmed soundtrack projects of films such as Pataas and Raja The Great. The music of the song Arere Vinavaa, penned by Sri Sai Kiran and sung by Anurag Kulkarni (one of the most sought after playback singers in the industry today), was unveiled by noted Telugu cinema director K. Raghavendra Rao.

What to Expect

Not an action thriller, NWM is a slow-burn mystery film that kicks off with a happily married couple and a missing persons case. The narrative moves through questions and not so much action sequences. Also, with its backdrop being the Konaseema town of Amalapuram in Andhra Pradesh, it is far removed from the urban centric thriller that most people are familiar with.

Streaming on aha

Clocking a runtime of 1 hour 39 minutes, it's an easy watch that you can enjoy in one go.

The aha Original, directed by Swathi Prakash Mantripragada, hit the streaming platform on 22 October 2026 in Telugu and Tamil. The app launched in 2020 offering only Telugu content but since then has expanded its repertoire to include the Tamil language as well. There are no updates on a Hindi version of it as of writing. You need an aha subscription to watch it.

Who It's For

Those who loved the leads' chemistry in Kotha Bangaru Lokam and want to see them together again, can enjoy this film. Those who are mystery enthusiasts, too, would find it engaging to figure out the whodunit along with the characters. With its runtime barely reaching the two-mark, it also makes for a good viewing option for a quiet evening at home.
