Jailer 2

Jailer 2 Release Date

Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth, released in theatres on Thursday 15 October 2026.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures and produced music by Anirudh Ravichander, Jailer 2 released in Tamil and Hindi dubbed versions.

The Jailer Is Back

In Jailer, Rajinikanth played retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian who's trying to live a normal life with his family, after a long career running a jail. However, he is forced to take matters into his own hands when his family is threatened by criminals.

The story of Jailer 2 hasn't been disclosed by the makers, except to reveal that Muthuvel's peaceful life with his family is once again disturbed by criminals. And once again, Muthuvel takes it upon himself to tackle the baddies, from the shadows this time.

Directed by Nelson, who helmed the original, Jailer 2 once again sees the actor return as Tiger and take on villains single-handedly.

Jailer was one of the biggest Tamil films of all time and was a massive hit at the box office. Rajinikanth played the grandfather-next-door-turned-tough-guy to perfection, and Nelson's brilliant screenplay, filled with dark, deadpan humour, made sure his action was thrilling yet never dull. Add in Anirudh's pulsating soundtrack and you have one of the best films of 2023.

Jailer 2: Cast and Characters

In Jailer 2, Rajinikanth reprises his role of Muthuvel Pandian.

His enemies this time around, however, are the Kalpak family, headed by S. J. Suryah (Bodhi Kalpak), Mithun Chakraborty (Chakri Kalpak) and Vidya Balan (Kantha Kalpak). Jatin Sarna (Ved Kalpak) and Hakkim Shajahan (Sharva Kalpak) complete the family.

Ramya Krishnan returns as Viji, Muthuvel's wife, with Mirnaa playing Swetha and Rithvik playing Rithu.

Also in the cast are Yogi Babu (Vimal), Suraj Venjaramoodu (Dileep) and Namo Narayana (Moorthi).

Jailer 2: Nelson's Dark, Stylish Comedy

Nelson Dilipkumar's films are instantly recognisable thanks to his unique brand of dark, deadpan humour, peppered with well-timed quips amid nail-biting situations.

The director, whose films include Beast, Doctor and Kolamaavu Kokila, made his debut with the latter, starring Nayanthara, followed up with Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor, Vijay's Beast and Jailer.

Jailer 2 is Nelson's first foray into making a sequel. He also penned the script of the film.

Jailer 2: Anirudh Once Again Sets the Pace

Anirudh Ravichander, who churned out one banger after another in 2023 with tracks like "Hukum", also scored the music for Jailer 2.

The film's theme song, composed by Anirudh, sung by him and MS Krsna and written by Super Subu, is on the film's full album.

Anirudh also composed the soundtrack of The Paradise, starring Nani, this year.
