Street Fighter released theatrically in India on 16 October 2026 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Street Fighter follows two former friends and rival fighters, Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken (Noah Centineo), who haven't spoken in a long time. But when they're approached by Chun-Li to take part in the next World Warrior Tournament, the two find themselves caught up in a sinister conspiracy that brings them back together. Forcing them to confront the events that drove them apart and each other.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai and distributed by Paramount Pictures, Street Fighter is set in 1993, the era when Street Fighter II ruled arcades.
Street Fighter's Indian actor
But for Indian movie goers, there's another character they can look forward to seeing on the big screen, Dhalsim, the stretch-limbed, fire breathing yoga master, played by none other than Vidyut Jammwal.
At an event organised by Paramount Pictures India in Mumbai, Jammwal opened up about preparing for the role and unveiled an exclusive featurette on his journey playing the iconic character for the first time.
Jammwal has been training in Kalaripayattu, an Indian martial art originating in the southern state of Kerala, since he was just three years old. He is known for performing his own stunts and action sequences in films including Khuda Haafiz and Commando.
Jammwal takes on the iconic role previously played by Roshan Seth in 1994's Street Fighter.
Street Fighter's eclectic supporting cast
Alongside Jammwal, Street Fighter boasts a stacked ensemble cast including
- Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Street Fighter's most iconic fighter
- David Dastmalchian as villain M. Bison (of Late Night with the Devil and The Suicide Squad fame)
- Jason Momoa as Blanka (who is also producing the film)
- Don Lee as Gouken (of Train to Busan fame)
- Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoa'i as Akuma
- Cody Rhodes as Guile
- 50 Cent as Balrog
- Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki
- Eric Andre as Don Sauvage
Street Fighter's director previously made comedies
While that's certainly an eclectic mix, one name might raise a few more eyebrows than others, namely director Sakurai, whose prior credits include Netflix hidden-camera comedy Bad Trip and directing The Eric Andre Show.
Sakurai co-wrote the script alongside T.J. Fixman and Dalan Musson. He seems the perfect helmsman to inject some fun and levity into a film that stars a man who can stretch his limbs across a room, and another who shoots fireballs from his hands.
Andrew Koji is well-acquainted with performing his own martial arts after headlining action series Warrior and starring as Storm Shadow in Snake Eyes. Centineo, who many will know from rom-coms including the To All the Boys film series, seems an inspired pick for the flashy rich kid of the two fighters.
Street Fighter's music is courtesy of Cobra Kai composers
Behind the camera, Street Fighter is shot by Ken Seng (Deadpool), while the music is courtesy of Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson, best known for their work on martial-arts series Cobra Kai. The film is brought to us courtesy of Legendary Pictures (the recent Dune and Godzilla films) alongside the games' creators at Japanese company Capcom.
Street Fighter is approximately two hours in length. And while that may sound like a long time to some, longtime fans of the games series know that's not even enough to introduce all of the original characters, never mind the slew of newcomers Capcom have since introduced over the years.
Street Fighter (2026) follows in the footsteps of two previous Street Fighter movies
Capcom's Street Fighter II arcade game was released back in 1991, and became one of the best-selling video games of all-time. Kids grew up playing the game at video parlours and on consoles at home, and almost certainly know the names of its many colourful fighters.
Hollywood first attempted an adaptation back in 1994 with its eponymous live-action film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile and Raul Julia as M. Bison, which has since grown something of a cult following. A follow-up titled The Legend of Chun-Li followed in 2009.
Street Fighter (2026) release date
Street Fighter hit Indian cinemas on Friday 16 October 2026 in four languages, English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. So if you'd like to catch Vidyut Jammwal's Hollywood debut film, you'll be able to do so with Hindi blaring from the speakers.
A release date and streaming partner for India haven't been confirmed as of writing, but you can stay up-to-date with all the latest Hindi dubbed movies here.
Street Fighter Trailer
In other news, Paramount Pictures dropped a fresh Street Fighter trailer on 1 September 2026.
Is Street Fighter (2026) worth watching?
If you grew up playing Street Fighter on your local arcade machine or at a mate's house during school holidays, then you almost certainly want to see these familiar faces finally strut their stuff on the big screen alongside such a stacked cast.
If you're a Vidyut Jammwal fan hoping to see him make his Hollywood debut, this is the film for you. Or if you're just after a fun, colourful and ruckus action flick to check out this weekend in English or Hindi, well, it's hard to imagine you'll find a better pick this month.
