Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali and Angela Bassett are among the stars lending their voices to Wildwood, the new stop-motion animated film from Travis Knight.
Based on Colin Meloy's novel, Wildwood has been in the works for quite some time, as LAIKA bought the rights to the novel in 2011 and began production in 2021.
Wildwood Release Date
Wildwood released in US theatres on Friday, 23 October 2026.
The movie made its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on 11 October 2026.
As of writing, the makers have not shared when Wildwood will release in India, or if it will get a Hindi release.
Wildwood Plot
Set in Portland, Wildwood follows young Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) whose baby brother is taken away by a murder of crows one fateful day. Teaming up with her classmate Curtis (Jacob Tremblay), she ventures deep into the woods to save him and discovers a secret world on the brink of war inhabited by all manner of strange characters.

Knight, who also serves as one of the producers, directs Wildwood from a screenplay penned by Chris Butler.
Knight previously helmed Kubo and the Two Strings for LAIKA and went on to direct the Transformers movie Bumblebee.
Meanwhile, Butler co-directed ParaNorman and went on to direct Missing Link for the studio.
Dario Marianelli composes the score for Wildwood.
He previously won an Oscar for his work on Atonement and also composed music for Knight's Kubo and the Two Strings.
Caleb Deschanel, who shot The Right Stuff and The Passion of the Christ, is the cinematographer of Wildwood.
The movie has been edited by Christopher Murrie.

Wildwood is based on Colin Meloy's novel of the same name, which was illustrated by his wife Carson Ellis.
Meloy is best known as the frontman for indie rock band The Decemberists.
The novel has since been followed by two sequels.
LAIKA bought the rights to adapt Wildwood into a feature film in 2011, just a week after the novel hit shelves.
Production on the movie quietly began in 2021. But considering LAIKA painstakingly creates every puppet and set by hand, it is safe to assume that Knight & Co. have been working on Wildwood for quite some time.
