Kannan and Manjula are an older couple who's been through it all in life together. What happens when they're given a second chance to relive their youth?

Well, that's when the Tamil series Love Always begins.

Premiering today, 30 October 2026 on JioHotstar, Love Always is a family drama with shades of comedy and romance, directed by Madhumita and produced by Guru Films and Korean production company Kross Pictures. Jayaprakash and Jayasudha play the older Kannan and Manjula, with Ramzan Muhammed and Gouri G Kishan taking on the younger versions of the characters.

A Second Chance at Being Young

Described by the makers as a story of rediscovery, of life, of love, and of second chances, Love Always hasn't released much information on what to expect from its plot just yet. All we know at this stage is that Kannan and Manjula are given an opportunity to live life all over again as young people.

From a Korean Webtoon

Love Always is adapted from a webtoon, a digital comic optimised for viewing on phones, called Here We Go Again. Created by Goeun, the webtoon was serialised on Kakao from 2015 to 2017.

Webtoons have increasingly served as source material for adaptations on-screen, with Korean webtoons particularly in demand as original ideas. Love Always claims to be the first web series in India to be based on one.

So, Love Always may well be a Tamil series through and through, but its origin is decidedly Korean, both in its source material as well as in its production. Will Kannan and Manjula get their happy ending in the end? That's for you to find out.

An unconventional romance

At its core, Love Always is a romantic story, unconventional and sweet in its own way, about an older couple who's lived life together. But when they're given the opportunity to experience life all over again, this time in their youth, they get a chance to live life all over again. Jayaprakash, who plays the role of Kannan in the series, says the series is ultimately about relationships and the bonds of family, which are universal in nature.

Love Always is directed by Madhumita, known for her film KD (2019). Her film KD, later remade in Hindi as Kaalidhar Laapata starring Abhishek Bachchan, also dealt with similar themes of starting life all over again. Starring Mu Ramaswamy as an 80-year-old man who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after walking out on his family.

Much like KD, Love Always paints old age and second chances in a positive light, and not merely as a cause for sadness. Appropriately, Mu Ramaswamy has also been roped in to play the character of Guruji in Love Always.

Two Couples, One Pair

The series stars Jayaprakash and veteran Telugu and Tamil actress Jayasudha in pivotal roles.

In case you were wondering, Jayaprakash and Jayasudha play Kannan and Manjula respectively in the older timeline, and it's Ramzan Muhammed and Gouri G Kishan who step into their shoes in the younger one. Those who have watched the Tamil heart-warmer 96, a cult favourite among audiences in Tamil Nadu for its depiction of first love, would have seen Gouri play the young Jaanu in the film.

The Rest of the Cast

Love Always is touted to be a fantasy-based drama that centres around a married couple who get a second shot at youth. While the older Kannan and Manjula are played by Jayaprakash and Jayasudha respectively, the younger versions are portrayed by Ramzan Muhammed and Gouri G Kishan. The series also has Maya S. Krishnan (who plays Meera), Smruthi Mohankumar (who plays Swathi), Mu Ramaswamy, Arul D. Shankar, Pradeep Rudra, Mythili Sathyajith, Dimple Kanna and Suraj as part of its cast.

What to Expect

Love Always will explore the trials and tribulations of a married couple navigating life all over again, this time as young adults. Though it hasn't revealed much about its story thus far, there's a good chance the series will take a comedic bent given its plot.

The trope of a young body housing that of an older person (or vice-a-versa) is a tried-and-tested formula in fiction. And Love Always seems all set to employ the same in its own unique manner.

Audiences can look forward to plenty of laughs courtesy the fish-out-of-water predicament that our protagonists find themselves in, particularly Gouri and Ramzan, who would be seen carrying themselves just like they're much older!

Why the Idea Works

Second chances have always worked well in fiction, be it a fresh start in life, or rekindling a lost love.

What makes Love Always' premise interesting, however, is that it plays with the idea of rekindling the spark in a long marriage instead. Exploring what it's like for a married couple to fall in love all over again.

And while Kannan and Manjula might be playing things light this time around, their younger and older avatars hold a mirror up to each other. Allowing them to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of one another.

The fantasy element further allows the series to appeal to more than one generation, with the older lot perhaps relating to Kannan and Manjula's trials and tribulations as a married couple. While their kids (or, you and I) might see their parents in a new light altogether.

Watching It in India

Love Always is slated to comprise of eight episodes that run about half-an-hour each, totalling just about four hours' worth of content. Its makers haven't shared the names of its episodes yet, but we'll be sure to include that information here once it does.

Touted to be a light family entertainer, Love Always will begin streaming on JioHotstar (subscription required) from 30 October 2026. Produced in Tamil, the series will also be made available in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and Bengali.
